Davey’s artistry is based deeply in communication, whether playing in a folk duo or a 60 piece hip hop ensemble, his intentions are of bringing people together through music. As a young man, Chegwidden was highly influenced by other drummers and percussionists, however today his sources of inspiration are not as specific, saying, “I am inspired by life in general. It’s the people who I meet, and the experiences I have that move me.” He sees the roll of the artist as that of a craftsman, honing the craft through repetition and exercise in order to tap into a more spiritual place. Davey identifies his favorite part of the job as, being able to work and interact with a myriad people with different cultures, religious backgrounds, ethnicities, and walks of life. Learning and sharing he simply describes the process as, “fun and rewarding.”
